As Christmas approaches, I can’t help but feel excited about the warmth and simplicity of celebrating in Honduras. Sure, I miss my family during this special time, but there’s something about this season that really lets me reflect on the birth of Christ without all the commercial noise.
In Honduras, Christmas is all about family and community. On December 24th, we visit each other’s homes, sharing lots of laughter and digging into delicious traditional foods like nacatamales. The night is alive with fireworks, filling the sky with bursts of color and creating a festive vibe that’s hard to beat!
At Club Aslan, we dedicate the month to learning about Christ's birth. With the kids out of school, we pack the schedule with extra activities to keep them engaged and having fun. It’s such a busy time, but it’s also so important for building those connections. I absolutely love seeing the joy on their faces as we decorate our Christmas tree and play some fun “reindeer games".
Baking my family’s sugar cookies to share with the kids is definitely a highlight. We have a blast decorating them together. And sharing this special family tradition helps me feel connected to my roots, while bringing and sense of togetherness and community to our season.
This Christmas season isn’t just about the celebrations; it’s a time for reflection, deepening our connections and embracing what the holiday truly means. Even though I miss my family, the spirit of togetherness here fills my heart with gratitude and joy. As we gear up for this joyful time, I feel so thankful for the light-hearted spirit that brightens our days in Honduras—making every moment feel a little more magical.
